**The Role**:
We are searching for an enthusiastic and motivated Stock person with a passion for cattle and sheep to join one of Australia's leading suppliers of Merino and Angus cattle genetics. Reporting directly to the manager and overseer we need someone with a passion for livestock, someone who enjoys a constantly changing work environment and someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced workplace.
The successful applicant will be required to oversee all aspects of cattle and sheep husbandry & grazing. It is a requirement of the role that you have a consistently high level of reporting skills both written and verbal. Applicants must have a strong work ethic with a positive attitude, be punctual, have excellent communication skills, and have leadership qualities. This is a fantastic opportunity for an established individual with solid experience to take the next step in their career.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in all aspects of livestock husbandry including health, nutrition, and grazing management
- Reporting directly to the Farm Manager
- Strong focus on balancing pasture and animal health
- Assist with overseeing, monitoring, and managing the grazing plans for all cattle including bull mobs, breeder herd, and weaners
**The Property**:
Primarily focused on wool production and angus cattle, the property currently operates at a carrying capacity of 60,000 DSE which consists of 15,000 sheep and just over 3000 breeding cows. The commercial sheep flock operates on a breakdown of 75% merino and 25% prime lamb production to fatten over the summer months. There is also a large AI program in place and 2000 cows are inseminated each year with progeny nurtured for around 10-12 months before returning to the stud for selection.
This sizable enterprise spans 9000 hectares of mainly basalt soils and with a 625mm average rainfall boasts a very productive yet intensive workplace. The farm is very well provisioned and has undergone extensive infrastructure developments in recent years with a central laneway system across the whole property, excellent water points and a new external exclusion fence on all boundaries.
**The Employer**:
Our clients are a large successful family-owned and operated Angus and Merino Stud plus commercial breeding enterprise spread across 3 properties in the Cooma and Monaro district of New South Wales. This multi-generational company specializes in the production of superior seedstock for the beef and wool industries and is one of the oldest and largest merino and angus cattle studs in Australia. They are a world leader in the use of measured performance and pride themselves on the quality and longevity of the animals that are bred. Seedstock has been the family's business for over 150 years.
**The Offer**:
The successful applicant must have
- Previous experience within a commercial cattle and sheep grazing operation.
- Experience with intensive grazing operations with knowledge of pasture management to maximize animal outcomes.
- Low-Stress Stock handling background (desirable)
- Computer literate and maintain good written records (Agriwebb exp desirable)
- Ability to work autonomously
- Be trustworthy, honest, and have a good work ethic.
- High level of communication, and attention to detail.
- Machinery operation and maintenance skills (desirable)
- Working dogs (desirable)
