We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent full time Traffic Safety Coordinator to join the Transport Planning and Assets Branch within the Council.
The Transport Planning and Assets Branch provides safe and sustainable planning solutions for the city's roads and waterways infrastructure. These services are provided through five teams, Branch Management, Road Asset Management, River and Catchment Engineering, Traffic and Transport and Infrastructure.
The role is a critical position within Transport Planning and Assets Branch's growing team of professional engineers and officers. Collaborating with the Community and Council to achieve best outcomes will provide immense job satisfaction for the successful candidate. In this position you will take the lead in developing, implementing, promoting and reporting on Council's Road Safety Strategy (SafeRoads4Logan); investigate road crashes and coordinate road safety initiatives; participate in Safe System Assessments and Road Safety Audits; foster existing road safety partnerships and encourage wider support for addressing traffic safety issues; and provide professional road safety advice to internal and external customers.
Position responsibilities include:
* Coordinate and report on road safety activities and strategic matters.
* Apply best-practice investigations for serious crashes and traffic safety issues.
* Analyse crash data, identify trends, and prepare reports.
* Design and review traffic safety projects, conduct audits, and ensure compliance with Safe Systems principles.
* Build partnerships with agencies, community groups, and stakeholders.
* Coordinate meetings with QPS, TMR, and other partners.
* Engage the community to identify needs and deliver projects.
Key indicators for success:
* Knowledge of the Queensland Transport Operations (Road User Management) Act and Transport Operations (Road User Management - Road Rules) Regulation, Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and other relevant Australian Standards and technical guidelines
* Tertiary degree in Civil Engineering, Behavioural Sciences, or related discipline; or extensive road safety experience.
* Eligibility for RPEQ registration (Professional Engineer under Queensland Professional Engineers Act) highly regarded; required for Level 7.
* Researching, designing, implementing, and evaluating behavioural road safety programs.
* Experience in traffic management for urban/rural networks, local infrastructure design, active transport planning, and applying Safe Systems principles. Proficient in traffic modelling tools (e.g., SIDRA, STREAMS).
* Ability to simplify complex concepts for diverse audiences and build collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
* Capable of supervising and mentoring staff, fostering a positive team culture.
* Competent in statistical analysis and using Microsoft Office tools, including Excel.
* Effective as an independent contributor and team member, with flexibility to adapt to varying work hours.
* Ability to pass all pre-employment and background checks as required.
