Winter Patrol Director
The Winter Patrol Director will provide leadership, daily management, and strategic guidance for the Berkshire East Ski Patrol. In coordination with resort management, the Director will develop and implement patrol procedures, policies, budgeting, training, and overall safety strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
* Promote safety for employees, guests, and operations across all mountain environments.
* Lead and manage patrol operations, including scheduling, training, and development of patrol staff.
* Coordinate and communicate effectively with resort management to align patrol goals with broader resort objectives.
* Steward patrol, mentoring patrollers and giving feedback as needed, while also respecting the legacy and existing culture of BESP.
* Organize and conduct daily patrol briefings, providing clear direction on responsibilities and safety protocols.
* Develop, implement, and evaluate patrol procedures to ensure best practices for safety and response.
* Oversee and support patrol projects, including trail inspections, safety checks, and hazard mitigation.
* Provide emergency medical care and rescue response for injuries or illnesses, ensuring quick and effective care.
* Deliver high-quality guest service, maintaining a positive presence on the mountain and responding promptly to guest needs.
* Manage data collection and reporting related to incidents, safety protocols, and operational performance.
* Perform lift and mountain evacuations as needed, following established protocols.
* Assist with special events, ensuring safety and logistical support throughout the resort.
Requirements:
* 5+ years of experience in ski patrol operations, with leadership roles preferred.
* Certifications: Current BLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR), or equivalent; Current Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), Wilderness First Responder (WFR), or EMT certification.
* Technical Skills: Proficiency in computer systems (Google platform, web-based apps, incident reporting software).
* Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication in verbal, written, and digital formats (radios, text, etc.).
* Leadership and Self-Motivation: Ability to lead by example, accept feedback, and adapt to evolving operational needs.
Physical Demands:
* Frequently physically demanding position; requires standing, bending, climbing, lifting, twisting, and reaching repetitively.
* Ability to safely ski/ride all winter trails.
* Operate various equipment, including vehicles, UTVs, ATVs, and mountain gear.
* Maintain mental focus and attentiveness in high-pressure situations.
* Adaptability to work in extreme weather conditions.
