About the role

The Data Scientist is responsible for high quality data science and advanced analytics work which is the responsibility of the State Operational Data Store Program. This position will be expected to apply superior data science and statistical modelling techniques, tools and processes to the unique health data. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team and be responsible for investigative analytics work, structured statistical model building and the associated data engineering pipeline and platform for key enterprise solutions all State ODS Program initiatives as commissioned by NSW Health.
The Health Manager level 3, starting salary from $127,150 - $144,444 plus Super and annual leave loading, with a 38-hour work week.
What you'll be doing
* Deliver advanced data analysis and data scientist related tasks for projects undertaken by the State ODS Program team.
* Design, develop, and refine machine learning algorithms to ensure outputs are reproducible, robust, and aligned with current best practices.
* Interpret output derived from algorithms generated, clearly articulating underlying assumptions, limitations, and implications for stakeholders.
* Validate algorithms through structured testing and documentation and establish dashboards to monitor algorithms in production environments.
* Collaborate with development teams to package and provide algorithm outputs in a format suitable for deployment into production applications.
About you
We are seeking a motivated and committed individual who can support the work of NSW Health with the following experience:
* Relevant tertiary qualifications and / or relevant experience in Data Science, Data Analytics, Actuarial, Mathematics, and Statistics. A history of openness and curiosity to explore new analytics techniques and data engineering principles and tools is essential.
* Experience (>2 years) applying advanced analytical methodologies, including predictive modelling (e.g. Generalised Linear Model regression, discriminant analysis, gradient boosting or similar).
* Experience (>2 years) with machine learning concepts and algorithms (e.g. supervised and unsupervised learning, regression, classification, clustering, and natural language processing (NLP), deep learning techniques, neural networks etc.) is desirable.
* Experience (>2 years) in the utilisation of SQL, Python, R, Jupyter Notebook and core data science libraries (e.g Pandas/NumPy/scikit-learn/Matplotlib/TensorFlow/PyTorch)
* Experience (>2 years) in data wrangling and feature engineering including cleaning, transforming, and preparing complex datasets for analysis and modelling.
* Experience (>2 years) in deploying and managing machine learning workflows in cloud environments (e.g., Azure ML) is highly desirable.
