The Role
As an Electrical Designer, you’ll play a key role in the delivery of Aquatec’s electrical design outcomes across water, wastewater and odour control projects. You’ll be responsible for producing high-quality electrical drawings and documentation that support safe, compliant and constructible project delivery.
Working closely with Lead and Senior Electrical Engineers, you’ll contribute to the detailed design of power, control and switchboard systems, ensuring designs align with Australian Standards, Water Authority requirements and project specifications. This role offers strong exposure to multidisciplinary project teams, real infrastructure delivery and the opportunity to continue developing your technical capability within a specialist water industry environment.
Key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
* Prepare detailed electrical design drawings and documentation including single line diagrams (SLD’s), schematics, switchboard general arrangements and layouts.
* Produce Low Voltage (LV) power, control, PLC/RTU, instrumentation and network architecture drawings using AutoCAD.
* Support Lead and Senior Engineers with electrical design development, reviews and project documentation.
* Ensure all designs comply with Australian Standards (AS61439, AS3000, AS3008, AS3010) and relevant client and Water Authority specifications.
* Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated, consistent and constructible designs.
* Review project scope, specifications and tender documentation to support accurate design outcomes.
* Liaise with suppliers, manufacturers and internal stakeholders to resolve design and technical queries.
* Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of drafting standards, templates and processes.
About You
You are a technically capable Electrical Designer with a strong eye for detail and a disciplined approach to documentation. You enjoy working in project-based environments, collaborating with engineers and delivery teams to produce designs that are practical, compliant and ready for construction.
With a solid foundation in electrical drafting and design, you combine strong AutoCAD capability with an understanding of industrial electrical systems, switchboards and compliance requirements. You’re organised, proactive and comfortable managing multiple design tasks while meeting quality and timeframe expectations.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* A Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, a trade background as a Licensed Electrician, or equivalent industry experience.
* Minimum 3 years’ experience using AutoCAD to produce electrical design drawings.
* Experience in industrial control systems, including motor control, automation, and process-driven environments (water industry experience highly regarded).
* Exposure to switchboard design or manufacturing environments (desirable).
* Proven ability to produce electrical documentation including SLDs, schematics, control diagrams and layouts.
* Working knowledge of AS61439, AS3000, AS3008 and AS3010 standards.
* Strong attention to detail with accountability for drawing accuracy and quality.
* Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across engineering disciplines.
* A proactive mindset with a willingness to learn, seek feedback and continue developing technical capability.
At Aquatec, you’ll join a specialist design team delivering critical water and wastewater infrastructure that supports communities across the world. This role offers hands-on project exposure, structured development alongside experienced engineers and long-term career growth within a stable and respected engineering organisation.
If you’re looking to build your electrical design career and contribute to meaningful infrastructure projects, we’d love to hear from you. Apply with your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience and interest in the role.
