Remuneration: $2240.23 -$2312.82 per week

This is a maternity relief position and should the permanent incumbent require an early return from maternity leave, this contract of employment will cease with two weeks' notice. Maternity relief positions can be for a period of up to 12 months, with the possibility of continued employment for up to a further 12 months for maternity leave reduced hours, therefore there are no claims to permanency.

Provide specialised social work services to adults and children who have experienced sexual assault. Join the Sexual Assault Service (SAS) and contribute to trauma-informed, evidence-based care and recovery for clients and their families.


About the Opportunity

The Senior Social Worker in the Sexual Assault Service delivers integrated psychosocial, medical, and forensic support within a multidisciplinary framework. In this role you will:


• Provide specialist counselling, casework, and therapeutic intervention to clients and their non-offending family members.
• Support children and families displaying harmful sexual behaviours and provide professional consultation to external partners.
• Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical research to enhance outcomes.
• Supervise and mentor junior social workers and social work students, supporting professional growth.
• Participate in on-call roster and collaborate across VAN Services to ensure seamless, culturally safe care.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:


• A Degree in Social Work from an accredited course with eligibility for AASW membership.
• Experience in trauma-informed counselling, crisis intervention, and recovery-focused practice for sexual assault clients.
• Advanced skills in assessment, casework, therapy, and working with children, young people, and adults affected by trauma.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication, with ability to manage conflict and negotiate effectively.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands, and build collaborative relationships with internal and external partners.
