About Us
The Future Evidence Foundation is revolutionising how the world creates and uses trustworthy knowledge. Alongside our Covidence platform we’re building data platforms to make evidence more accessible across areas that affect our world.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a software engineer to join the team on a 12-month, full time contract, focused on building large-scale platforms to power evidence synthesis globally. You’ll join a small team, focused on bringing impactful solutions to life quickly.
We’ve partnered with organisations supporting research across climate & health, education, and mental health to build repositories of evidence data. This role supports our investment into these important projects and will continue to build platforms that support the broader research community
You’ll get to:
- Build open-source systems that accelerate thousands of researchers
- Contribute to the architecture and operation of data systems
- Work to refine the team’s processes to increase our impact

What you bring:
- Experience building data-intensive systems and APIs
- Strong knowledge of queuing systems, orchestrators, and messaging architectures
- A pragmatic approach to building “just enough” to bring value quickly
- Great communication skills, both written and verbal
Technology stack:
We’re only just getting started, but we’re guessing these are the kinds of tools we’ll need. You don’t need to be deeply experienced in all of these, but some exposure to them will be advantageous.
- Python & FastAPI with some Pydantic
- PostgreSQL and ElasticSearch as appropriate
- Azure (though any cloud exposure is good!)
- Terraform
- OpenAPI/Swagger
- Continuous Integration - Buildkite/GitHub Actions
