Technical Writer | Adelaide
We're working with a great local company, helping them with a huge growth period after winning a large number of major contracts and are continuing to expand at pace.
As the company scales, they are looking to bring in a Technical Writer who can take complex engineering and operational information and translate it into clear, structured documentation. You'll develop and maintain high-quality manuals, procedures, specifications, and training materials that will support both internal teams and external clients.
This role requires someone who can standardise documentation practices, set up templates, and ensure consistency across all outputs. You'll collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and leadership to ensure that documentation is accurate, accessible, and compliant with industry standards.
While technical writing will be your primary focus, there's also scope to support document control activities, such as versioning, approvals, and SharePoint management
Technical Writer Responsibilities
* Research, create, and maintain:-
* Product manuals and user guides
* Operating and maintenance procedures
* Compliance documentation aligned with aerospace/defence standards
* Training materials, quick-reference guides, and FAQs
* Technical content for bid and proposal submissions
* Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, and leadership to capture and refine technical knowledge
* Translate highly technical concepts into clear, concise, and user-friendly language for multiple audiences
* Define and enforce documentation standards, templates, and style guides
* Ensure documents meet compliance and quality assurance requirements (ISO, aerospace/defence standards)
* Edit and proofread documents for clarity, accuracy, and consistency
(Nice to have) Support document control tasks: version control, approval workflows, and SharePoint library management.
(Nice to have) Create or edit visuals, diagrams, or schematics using Adobe Suite or similar tools.
Technical Writer Requirements
* Proven experience as a Technical Writer, ideally within aerospace, defence, robotics, or another highly technical/regulated industry.
* Strong portfolio of technical documents (manuals, specifications, procedures, etc.).
* Ability to interview subject matter experts and extract information for documentation.
* Expertise in structuring and indexing content for usability and accessibility.
* Familiarity with standards and compliance requirements in aerospace/defence (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100).
* Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and content authoring tools; familiarity with SharePoint is a plus.
* Excellent grammar, editing, and proofreading skills.
* Bonus: experience with Adobe Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) or diagramming tools to enhance documentation with visuals.
