About The Role

The Paediatric Intensive Care Transition to Specialty Practice Program provides participants with the opportunity to develop foundational Paediatric Critical Care skills in a compassionate and dynamic environment. It is a 12-month program through which participants will acquire clinical nursing experience, core paediatric critical care skills, and enable the application of theoretical knowledge to clinical practice within a supportive environment.

Participants will be supported, by the Nursing Education Team, through a full orientation to the Intensive Care Services and the PICU, with supported classroom and bedside style teaching.

There are four further dedicated study days designed to complement the associated theoretical modules and the participants learning in the clinical setting. Participants will have access to the Nursing Education team 7 days per week to help facilitate ongoing professional development during and after the completion of the program.

Your everyday practice will see you delivering Paediatric Advanced Life Support and haemodynamic monitoring, providing comprehensive care to critically unwell children, recognising and escalating clinical deterioration, championing family-centred care, and working collaboratively within a culturally safe, multidisciplinary team.

This role offers the opportunity to develop and refine your skills in both invasive and non-invasive ventilation, as well as the delivery of Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy. You will gain valuable experience in caring for paediatric trauma patients and those with complex oncology and surgical needs, while also enhancing your leadership capabilities through preceptorship.
