About the Role

Are you operationally and technically minded and looking to building a hands‐on career in the water industry? If yes, the Water Services Technical Officer could be the perfect role for you!

The Water Service Technical Officer (WSTO) is a field‐based role focused on operation, maintenance and improvements on large scale rural irrigation infrastructure that supplies water to farmers and primary producers. This role is not landscape garden irrigation. You will be working on bulk water delivery systems, including channels, pipelines, regulator, meters and Rubicon automated infrastructure, ensuring water is delivered, accurately, reliably and equitably to customers in the Werribee and Bacchus Marsh Irrigation Districts.

You will work outdoors as part of an experienced operation team, undertaking operational and technical maintenance work on both manual and automated irrigation assets.

Working alongside our maintenance planners, you will gain hands‐on experience, with industry‐specific training provided in irrigation infrastructure, automation, and operational processes.

Responsibilities

* Undertake routine and reactive maintenance on channels, pipelines, regulators, meters and automation assets on time and to agreed standards.
* Assist with minor construction and renewal works across the water supply and drainage network
* Identify faults and opportunities to improve performance and reliability of irrigation infrastructure
* Operate, monitor, and maintain large – scale agriculture irrigation system, including manual, and SCADA‐controlled irrigation systems
* Maintain equipment, plant and vehicles to ensure they are in safe working condition.
* Record maintenance and operational activities within asset management system (AMS)
* Work safely in outdoor and field based environments, including around water and machinery

About you

* Experience in field‐based, mechanical, minor civil, trade, agriculture, utilities or infrastructure environments
* Basic understanding or willingness to learn automation, telemetry or SCADA systems used in water delivery (automation/SCADA), operations or field‐based work.
* Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem‐solving skills
* Ability to operate a broad range of tools, plant and equipment.
* A strong safety focus and ability to works outdoors in a varying condition.
* A customer focused mindset.
