Consultant Neurologist: Practice Extraordinary Medicine in Australia's Top End
The Role: Clinical Impact Where It Matters Most
Joining a dedicated team of two existing Neurologists, you will provide specialist care to a culturally diverse and geographically vast population. This is a rare opportunity to manage a broad and complex caseload—including tropical neurology and presentations unique to the Northern Territory—within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment.
We are looking for a clinician driven by health equity. We want a colleague who is genuinely curious about First Nations health and eager to make a tangible difference in the lives of Territory residents while growing their own clinical profile.
Why Join Us?
• A Unique Clinical Frontier: Manage diverse pathologies rarely seen in metropolitan centres.
• Sub-Specialty Growth: Whether you have an established sub-specialty or a desire to develop one, we are committed to supporting your professional evolution.
• Collaborative Mentorship: Work closely with an experienced team in a \"flat\" hierarchy that values fresh perspectives and shared learning.
• The Darwin Lifestyle: Exchange the \"big city\" grind for a five-minute commute, vibrant night markets, and world-class National Parks at your doorstep.
Requirements
We are seeking a motivated Neurologist who prioritizes patient-centered care and values a collaborative workplace culture.
• Credentials: Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) and Fellowship of the RACP (or an equivalent with a clear pathway to Fellowship).
• Cultural Engagement: A genuine interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and a commitment to working effectively in a multicultural setting.
• Team Orientation: A desire to work as a collegiate member of a multidisciplinary team, focusing on education and quality assurance.
• Clinical Skills: Experience in the assessment and management of neurology patients at a consultant level (new Consultants are encouraged to apply).
The Incentives
• Top-Tier Compensation: Competitive base salary plus significant district and professional allowances.
• Work-Life Balance: Generous recreation and study leave provisions.
• Relocation Support: Comprehensive assistance to help you (and your family) transition to life in the Top End.
The Opportunity
Royal Darwin & Palmerston Hospitals are seeking a Consultant Neurologist to join a dedicated three-person specialist team in Australia's Top End. This is a rare chance to step away from the metropolitan grind and into a clinical environment where your work directly addresses health equity for a vast and culturally diverse population.
The Clinical Landscape
This role offers a unique bread-and-butter caseload alongside complex pathology rarely seen in Southern cities. From Tropical Neurology to the intricacies of First Nations health, the clinical variety is unmatched. Whether you are an established specialist or a New Consultant looking to carve out your niche, the team is committed to supporting your professional growth and any sub-specialty interests you wish to develop.
Why Darwin?
Beyond the medicine, the lifestyle is the draw. Imagine a five-minute commute, world-class tropical sunsets, and a \"summer all year\" pace of life. This 24-month post (with extension possibilities) includes a high-tier salary, generous allowances, and relocation support.
Who Should Apply?
The team is looking for a colleague who values a flat hierarchy, collaborative care, and has a genuine motivation to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
