HEAD COACH
Reporting to the volunteer committee role of Director of Coaching, the BASLC Head Coach will lead the design, development and implementation of the club's competitive swimming program across 5 squads of varying abilities.
The role includes,
Coaching
To plan, implement and manage the Club’s swimming program in conjunction with the Coaching Team:
- Oversee the development of a season plan and meet calendar
- Organise squad timetables in consultation with the Coaching Team and Committee
- Document criteria for the makeup of squad and timetables
- Within the coaching team, establish the environment for a swimmer to set personal goals and the prospect to achieve their potential by clearly communicating instructions and expectations of the coaching staff.
- Provide the appropriate level of supervision, support and development to all swimmers as individuals and as a part of a team at both junior and senior level.
- Detect and correct faults and improve skills of all swimmers.
- Maintain an understanding of the current and new directions in the coaching of swimming, and keep abreast of these advancements.
- Maintain and keep all qualifications current.
- Develop personal coaching skills and techniques and undertake further training as appropriate.
Administration
- Maintain a Squad list for each Squad and provide a copy of the attendance list to the Treasurer at the end of each month, or as agreed.
- Provide input to table at Committee meetings (as requested by the Committee) and provide input to monthly reports to the Club Committee’s nominated representative.
- Attend the Squad Training Sub-Committee meetings when requested, as required.
- Encourage swimmers to maintain personal log books of performance and times, and provide comments in the log books on a regular basis.
- Actively promote the development of the Club.
- Conduct and attend regular meetings with the other coaching staff and provide an environment to foster their development in coaching.
- Work as a member of the coaching team to develop and maintain roster for staffing of coaching, competitions, aggregates and any other events as defined.
- Submit Coaching article to the newsletter Editor for release within the Club Newsletter as required, requested.
Competitions
- Encourage participation at competitions of a suitable ability to the individual swimmers and advice on which events would be best suited to them.
- Assist swimmers through warm-up, pre-race instructions and post-race encouragement and appraisal.
- Record lap times of swimmers with these appraisals and possible areas of improvement.
- Sit with the Club at all times during Club approved meets.
- Attendance at minimum 2 Club Aggregates and 1 inter Club meet(s) per season.
- Attendance at Club Championship events.
- Attendance at rostered Club targeted meets
- National Police / Criminal History Check
- Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
