We have a vacancy for an Energy Spot Trader, in Australia, to join our team. We're open to full-time or part-time hours for this role. As an integral member of our commercial team, you will shape the Habitat Energy asset optimisation and trading efforts. The role will focus on the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM) and will be based in our Australian office in Melbourne.
Key accountabilities include:
- Optimisation of physical and financial trading positions within real-time electricity markets with a key focus of maximising value capture for our clients.
- Assess risks and opportunities of asset operations by coordinating with asset clients operations staff.
- Support analysis and tool creation/improvement to aid in achieving profit targets and the optimal dispatch of assets.
- Work with the data science, trading and technical teams to develop and implement trading strategies and tactics to achieve targets whilst complying with risk limits and trading control procedures.
- Analysis of the National Electricity Market to understand supply, demand, competitor strategies and transmission constraints to identify opportunities to maximise gross margin.
- Track the competitive environment to inform Habitat's asset optimisation strategy, positioning and service offering
- Support relationships with key clients, market operators and other key stakeholders
- Provide input into the product development roadmap and service offerings, identifying new market opportunities, and work internally to establish requirements and execute on service development
**Requirements**:
- Experience in a short-term trading role managing dispatch of physical assets and trading positions including the contributed to creating and executing trading strategies;
- Good judgement in high pressure, high value situations;
- Ability to prioritise workload in time pressured environment;
- Experience of giving internal and external customers a combination of competitive prices and outstanding customer service;
- Strong knowledge of the operations, rules, infrastructure and key players of the National Electricity Market;
- Knowledge of how real-time energy and ancillary service market prices are impacted and the opportunities they create for assets operating within;
- A degree in business, economics, finance, computer science, engineering or related technical field
- You have the ability to simplify and communicate complex issues
Other desirable attributes:
- Experience with range of technologies including battery, solar and wind.
- Working knowledge of Excel/VBA and Python (Pandas,etc) as well as experience querying relational databases (e.g., SQL) would be advantageous.
