Position Overview

These positions support the Parliamentarian with parliamentary work and constituent engagements. The Parliamentarian is seeking applications from candidates with well-developed communication and organisational skills to join the team as an Electorate Officer, with the responsibility of providing support and advice on work relating to electorate matters.

The key duties of the positions are, but are not limited to:

- Coordinating and managing all office administration functions including reception, mail, couriers, greeting constituents and filing.

- Management and facilitation of constituent enquiries, and electorate office events.

- Responding to constituent enquiries including preparation of correspondence.

- Assisting the Chief of Staff, Parliamentary Chief of Staff, Diary Manager as requested.

- Supporting the Federal Member with research as requested.

- Monitoring and distributing media clippings and maintaining key media contacts daily.

- Drafting responses and official correspondence regarding constituent issues.

- Promptly managing escalations and inquiries made by Parliamentarians, the general public and other stakeholders regarding issues in the electorate.

- Taking minutes/notes, filing, social media monitoring and other administrative tasks as required.

- Assisting with research and diary programming as required.

- Attending community events, which may require working on weekends and/or public holidays.

- Promoting, supporting and maintaining a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace culture.

- Other duties as required, to support the Parliamentarian and the effective operation of the Electorate Office.

- Occasional interstate travel, which may require travel on weekends and/or public holidays.

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills and capabilities:

- An enthusiastic, positive, flexible, and people-orientated approach to work.

- Ability to engage and communicate effectively with a broad range of people.

- Proven reliability in meeting deadlines and commitments, especially in a high-pressure environment.

- Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to work independently and cohesively as part of a team.

- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

- Previous experience developing written communication materials will be highly regarded.

- Previous experience working for a Member of Parliament - preferred but not essential.

Employment conditions:

The positions are offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act (1984) and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:

- A commencing salary between $76,910 and $89,793 (pro-rata for part-time) will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.

- An additional optional allowance of up to $6,966 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work.

- Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).

- An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

- Located in the Kennedy Electorate offices, one position is in Mareeba, QLD and the other position is in Innisfail, QLD. Both positions are offered on a part-time basis (15 hours per week).

Applicants should note the following:

- An initial probationary period of three months may apply and may be subject to extension.

- The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.

- Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.

- The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
