Multiple fixed term temporary roles – 12 months
Rostered shifts equivalent of 3.0 FTE available
Applications are sought from suitably qualified Consultant Emergency Physicians for a fixed-term, 12-month position at John Hunter Hospital.
This role includes guaranteed rostered weekend and evening VMO shifts (equivalent 3.0 FTE available) in the Emergency Department, providing contemporary, comprehensive specialist care to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Major Trauma & Tertiary Centre – John Hunter Hospital is home to the only trauma centre outside Sydney and delivers primary and tertiary trauma services to the Hunter Valley, Central Coast, New England, and Mid North Coast.
High-Acuity, Diverse Caseload – With one of the busiest EDs in the state, this role provides exposure to a broad range of emergency medicine, including paediatrics, major trauma, critical care, and retrieval services.
Strong Research & Training Links – Work in a hospital with innovative collaborations with the Hunter Medical Research Institute and the University of Newcastle, supporting professional growth, education, and research opportunities.
Cutting-Edge Retrieval Service – In partnership with the Hunter Retrieval Services, Westpac Rescue Helicopter and NSW Ambulance, we provide retrieval services for critically ill patients across northern NSW.

Role Requirements
Medical Registration – Applicants must hold a primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and either:
Fellowship with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM), OR FRACP Paediatrician with a Specialisation in Emergency Medicine (FRACP PEM)
Clinical Responsibilities – Admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient, telehealth, and on-call services as required by HNELHD.
Education & Research – Contribute to training, supervision, and ongoing clinical education within the department.
