Primary objective
Provide high level advice and leadership in development and implementation of communications and whole of government
community engagement strategies, including media management.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage the delivery of communications projects and activities, including planning and logistics, resource allocation and
consideration of media, political and stakeholder implications in line with the objectives, strategic directions, and
priorities of government.
2. Coordinate communications programs to deliver effective services consistent with NTG procurement and policy
guidelines including whole of government media arrangements.
3. Support the Communications Review Committee (CRC) in promoting effective, coordinated, consistent and value for
money outcomes across NTG communication and engagement activities.
4. Support the consultation, coordination, and analysis of communication activities across whole of government.
5. Manage external consultants providing communication services.
6. Ensure whole of government programs adhere to Northern Territory Government (NTG) branding, communication
policies and guidelines including Public Information Act.
7. Provide advice on, and leadership in, the delivery of effective and professional communications services for the whole
of government.
8. High level support to the Public Information Group for NTG Emergency Management responsibilities.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven track record in formulating and implementing effective communication and community engagement campaigns.
2. Excellent understanding of contemporary communication, engagement and emergency management principles and
practices.
3. Practical knowledge of communication and marketing tools and processes, including the use of a diverse range of media
in community consultation and communication/marketing strategies.
4. High level interpersonal skills conducive to maintaining open and effective relationships with a range of clients including
senior executives, managers, departmental staff, the Minister's office and external consultants.
5. Proven ability to manage compliance and provide advice on communication policies and guidelines in accordance with
relevant legislation and brand guidelines.
6. An ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in communications and/or marketing.
2. Knowledge of NTG procurement processes, systems and practices, particularly regarding creative services to the public.
