Proclinical are proud to be partnering with our client, a highly specialised and leading cell and gene therapy CDMO, to appoint a Quality Control Operations Manager into a key technical and operational leadership role within their Quality Control team.
This opportunity will suit a technically strong cell scientist who is ready to step into a broader role spanning QC operations, troubleshooting, scheduling, team support and scientific leadership.
Role Overview
The Quality Control Operations Manager will support the day-to-day running of a specialist Quality Control laboratory supporting cell therapy products, helping coordinate testing, troubleshoot real-time issues, support team priorities, and ensure QC activities are delivered accurately and on time.
This role sits at the intersection of:
* cell-based analytical testing
* QC operations
* team support and scientific leadership
* cross-functional coordination with Manufacturing, QA, Supply Chain, Project teams and externally including client stakeholders
This is not a purely administrative QC leadership role. The client is looking for someone who can become a genuine technical authority within the team.
Responsibilities
QC Operations / Technical Support
* Support the day-to-day operation of the QC operations, ensuring testing is delivered accurately and within required timelines.
* Coordinate testing priorities, routine lab activities, and scheduling in support of manufacturing and patient release timelines.
* Act as a technical SME and escalation point for troubleshooting assay and workflow issues.
* Support Shift Leaders and QC Scientists with real-time decision-making and problem solving.
* Help create structure, clarity, and confidence across routine work, priorities, and laboratory execution.
Scientific / Assay Leadership
* Provide technical support across cell-based QC platforms, including:
* flow cytometry
* PCR
* cell culture-based assays
* cell concentration / viability work
* functional cell assays
* Support troubleshooting and continuous improvement of cell-based testing practices.
* Help build team capability, scientific confidence, and assay understanding over time.
* Contribute to implementation of new assays, procedures, and client-driven requirements.
Quality / GMP / Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Ensure testing and documentation are performed in accordance with GMP requirements, SOPs, and quality standards.
* Support deviations, investigations, OOS/non-conformances, and general QC documentation activities.
* Work closely with Manufacturing, QA, Supply Chain and Project Management to align QC execution with operational and patient needs.
* Interact credibly with technically knowledgeable stakeholders and clients.
* Promote a culture of scientific rigour, quality, collaboration, and respect for systems.
Skills and Experience
We are particularly interested in candidates who bring:
* A degree in Cell Biology, Biomedical Science, Biotechnology, Life Sciences or a related field
* Strong hands-on experience in cell-based laboratory testing
* Technical depth in areas such as:
* flow cytometry
* PCR
* cell culture
* viability / cell concentration testing
* functional cell assays
* A strong foundation in cell science, with the confidence to troubleshoot and support others
* Experience in a GMP-regulated or similarly controlled laboratory environment (highly regarded)
* Good understanding of deviations, documentation standards, procedures, and working within structured systems (highly regarded)
* Strong organisational skills, communication skills, and sound judgement in a fast-paced environment
We would also welcome candidates who:
* are currently a Senior QC Scientist or senior technical scientist looking for the next step
* have mentored others informally and are ready for a broader leadership remit
* are coming from research / academia / clinical lab settings, but are genuinely committed to building a long-term career in industry
* want to be part of a team and build authority through knowledge, credibility, and practical support, rather than title alone
