Primary objective
The Families Programs branch manages programs including Child and Family Centres, Family Support, Out-of-Home Care,
and Transition to Independent Living. The Project Support Officer provides business and project assistance to a small team
who plan and manage programs, contracts, and projects to improve outcomes for children, young people, and families.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide effective support for programs in identified projects, including the collation of data to enable the programs team

to build its evidence base, monitor performance and recognise achievements.
2. Assist in the preparation of ministerial briefings and other high-level correspondence and reports, including documents

for publication.
3. Assist to coordinate meetings, consultations, and engagement forums.
4. Manage a range of concurrent activities in a timely and efficient manner, with minimum supervision.
5. Engage with and work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders including responding to public

queries and contact.
6. Ability to work within and provide administrative support to several projects and program teams.
7. Operate as an effective representative of the Department in a variety of forums.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Comprehensive administrative and project support experience, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage time

effectively to meet deadlines.
2. Positive written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft and prepare reports, correspondence, and

ministerial briefings.
3. High level oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and communicate effectively and

diplomatically with a variety of internal and external stakeholders whilst upholding integrity of confidentiality.
4. High level computer skills, with proficiency in the various standard office software packages, excel and similar data and

reporting tools, as well as corporate systems and applications to support travel arrangements, payables, grants and
contract management or the ability to acquire such knowledge.

5. Demonstrated high-level of personal motivation and initiative, with a positive attitude to teamwork and drive to deliver
team outputs and corporate outcomes.

6. Demonstrated ability to be agile and adaptive to respond to changing priorities.

Desirable
1. An understanding of project management.
2. Experience with specific NTG applications such as GrantsNT, TRAX, CARE, NTGPay and TRIPS.
3. Northern Territory driver’s licence or the ability to obtain.
