About the Role
As the Equitable Learning Advisor at the University of Melbourne, you'll play a vital role in ensuring all students have equal opportunities in their academic journey. Collaborating with a diverse range of students, from elite performers to those with health conditions, you'll facilitate necessary adjustments for their active participation in university life. Your responsibilities include regular meetings with students, coordinating with Disability Services, and collaborating with university staff to create an inclusive learning environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Reviewing registration applications and supporting documents to assess eligibility for ongoing support and reasonable adjustments.
2. Developing and assisting in implementing Academic Adjustment Plans to ensure equitable student participation in educational pursuits, following relevant policies and guidelines.
3. Facilitating student referrals to internal and external support services as required.
4. Proactively reaching out to students, scheduling appointments, following up on equity adjustments, and facilitating administrative navigation.
5. Actively contributing to fostering a quality student-centred service culture, ensuring all team members consistently deliver high standards of service to every student

You will also have:
6. Tertiary qualification in health sciences, social welfare, disability, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training
7. Demonstrated personal resilience in working in a high-volume team environment and managing conflict.
8. Knowledge of and ability to effectively utilise large complex databases, such as CRM and student systems, and to ensure accurate records are maintained.
9. Experience in the support of people who identify with a mental health condition or as neurodiverse

Your new team – Student and Scholarly Services - The Student Equity and Disability Services
Student and Scholarly Services provides student administration and services from recruitment and point of enquiry to graduation. This team also delivers wellbeing and scholarly services to students and staff.
The Student Equity and Disability Services (SEDS) is in the Wellbeing Services portfolio, which includes the University’s Health Service, Counselling and Psychological Services (CAPS), and the Chaplaincy service. SEDS is responsible for providing educational adjustments for students with a disability or health condition, are carers of a person with a disability, are defence reservists or emergency volunteers or for cultural or religious observance which impacts their ability to participate fully in their studies.
