This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Lead Technical Accountant in Australia.
This is a strategic accounting leadership role within a global, mission-driven organization operating at scale. As a key technical expert, you will shape accounting policy, strengthen financial reporting, and enhance internal control frameworks across multiple legal entities. You'll partner cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, and operational teams to ensure compliance with US GAAP and uphold best-in-class governance standards. From leading major audit components to guiding the implementation of new accounting standards, your work will directly support transparency, accountability, and financial integrity. Accountabilities
* Serve as the subject matter expert on technical accounting matters, providing clear guidance on US GAAP application and financial reporting standards.
* Maintain and enhance accounting policies and financial governance documentation to ensure clarity, consistency, and compliance.
* Lead key components of annual financial statement audits, including preparation of audit schedules and coordination with external auditors.
* Support the preparation and review of Form 990 filings, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
* Research, evaluate, and document new or emerging accounting standards, leading cross-functional implementation and adoption plans.
* Strengthen internal controls over financial reporting by documenting processes, identifying gaps, and recommending improvements aligned with COSO standards.
* Drive accounting process improvement initiatives, optimizing workflows, controls, and documentation practices.
* Provide guidance on revenue and expense recognition matters to cross-functional stakeholders.
* Support treasury and investment activities, including monitoring cash flows and contributing to cash forecasting and liquidity planning.
Requirements
* Active CPA license (or equivalent international certification) with strong US GAAP expertise.
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with 8+ years of relevant experience, including public accounting experience.
* Strong experience supporting audited financial statements; experience with Form 990 preparation preferred.
* Deep understanding of nonprofit accounting principles and financial reporting frameworks.
* Experience designing, documenting, and testing internal controls, including SOX compliance exposure.
* Proven ability to draft technical accounting memos and maintain detailed accounting policy documentation.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate complex accounting concepts clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
* Excellent time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a global, remote environment.
* High attention to detail and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
* Professional-level English proficiency (CEFR C2 / ILR Level 5).
