Accountant Role
The Accountant will be responsible for the preparation, control and monitoring of Council's financial reporting obligations, internal control monitoring and compliance activities.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare annual statutory financial statements associated returns and schedules within timeframes.
* Liaise with auditors as required.
* Develop and review internal controls to provide protection for the Council.
* Prepare Fringe Benefits Tax Returns and lodge annually in a timely and accurate manner.
* Assist with the preparation of accounting policies and guidelines.
Organisational Relationships
* Reports to: Manager Financial Services
* Internal Liaisons: All Council Staff
* External Liaisons: Ratepayers, residents and the general public
Qualifications and Experience:
* A degree or nearing completion of a degree with an accounting major.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills.
* Demonstrated experience in a similar role, including preparation of annual financial statements and internal controls review.
Licenses & Mandatory Requirements:
* Current South Australian Driver's License
* Permanent residency or current approved Australian visa
Key Selection Criteria:
1. A clear knowledge of accounting concepts, Australian Accounting Standards and legislation.
2. Sound knowledge of accounting theory, methods and procedures.
3. An understanding of internal control principles and practices.
