Where you’ll be working
Located in the vibrant beachside city of Newcastle, John Hunter Hospital is one of NSW’s largest teaching hospitals, currently expanding with the development of a new Acute Services Building. On F3, you’ll join a cohesive, energetic, and collaborative team dedicated to providing safe and effective care for patients requiring cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery. This unit offers in-house education programs, the Surgical Services education team, and colleagues who share knowledge to support your growth in a high-acuity specialty.
This is a unit where no one is left behind, with growth and learning opportunities for proactive and curious nurses ready to build their career.
About The Role
As an Enrolled Nurse on F3, you’ll provide care for patients from admission to discharge. Each shift offers opportunities to develop and expand your skills, including:
- ICC and drain management
- Complex and simple wound care
- Medication administration
- Telemetry and observation tools
- Pain and symptom management
This is a 7-day rotating roster role, supported by a NUM who understands work/life balance and will assist with personal and professional commitments. You’ll manage your own patient load under RN delegation while the wider F3 nursing team provides support.
About You
You’re hardworking, eager to learn, and thrive in a fast-paced environment where critical thinking and good judgement matter. You can confidently identify and escalate concerns, follow processes, and bring enthusiasm to a unit that values professional growth and autonomy.
Support, education & team culture
On F3, you’ll never stop learning. You’ll be supported with:
- Corporate and ward-based orientation with supernumerary shifts
- Access to Surgical Services educators, rounding, and opportunistic teaching
- A 10-week specialty education program with opportunities to observe in theatres
- Mentorship from day one and regular check-ins with the NUM
- Annual PDRs to guide your development
With a dedicated unit wellbeing coordinator, there’s always something happening — from team celebrations to social catch-ups outside of work. For part-time staff, there’s flexibility to pick up extra shifts, and overtime is shared fairly within the team.
