Overview
The Maritime Directorate of the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI) is responsible for managing the WA coastline and facilitating the safe and sustainable use of navigable waters. Responsibilities include management of shipping and pilotage ports, oceanographic data collection, coastal management, strategic planning, and the design and delivery of boating infrastructure. We also manage maritime facilities, maritime environmental emergencies, and operational initiatives to enhance the WA coast and safe use of navigable waters. Maritime's purpose is to enable safe, accessible and sustainable use of navigable waters and to collaboratively plan, drive and deliver best practice in maritime development and management for the economic and social prosperity of Western Australia.
Maritime uses a collaborative management model across the Transport Portfolio, other state government agencies, Local Government, Port Authorities and maritime-related businesses in service delivery to the community.

The Opportunity
Play a hands-on role in protecting and managing Western Australia's diverse coastline. In this technical role, you'll deliver specialist coastal engineering advice, undertake detailed investigations, and design practical solutions that support sustainable coastal and maritime outcomes and oversee consultancies delivering the same.
You'll work on a broad range of projects—from coastal adaptation and protection works to maritime infrastructure—applying your engineering expertise to real-world challenges. This role offers exposure to field investigations, modelling, design and contract management, alongside collaboration with local governments and State agencies. You'll be supported to grow your technical capability while contributing to outcomes that safeguard WA's coast for future generations.

* Demonstrated experience and skills in the investigation and design assessment associated with coastal engineering and maritime works.
* Experience in project and contract management including the supervision of contracted works.
* Well-developed written and verbal communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to interact effectively with officers at all levels and work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Well-developed ability to manage, analyse and evaluate projects utilizing effective problem-solving skills.
* Competency in the use and application of a personal computer for analysis, modelling, report preparation and presentations.
