Join Us as an Accommodation Youth Support Worker Be the Light in a Young Person’s Darkest Hour Are you ready to make a real, heartfelt difference? At The Salvation Army Australia, we believe in the power of compassion, community, and hope. We are seeking a dedicated Accommodation Youth Support Worker to join our team in Victoria, providing vital evening support to young men and women experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their home.

About The Role: For many young people, the night can be the hardest time — a time of uncertainty, fear, and loneliness. As a Youth Support Worker, you will be a beacon of safety and kindness within our crisis accommodation setting. Your qualified and compassionate support will help these young people find stability, dignity, and hope, working alongside our case management team to implement care plans that guide them towards independence. Reporting to the Client Services Coordinator, this is a permanent part-time position, 35 hours per week, based in Shepparton, VIC. Compensation is in accordance with SCHADS Award Level 3.

Responsibilities

- Create a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment for all residents
- Support young people to manage their living spaces, build life skills, and prepare for independent living
- Uphold the Journey to Independence Model, fostering a respectful and positive refuge experience
- Maintain accurate, timely records aligned with legislative requirements
- Assist young people with appointments related to health, housing, education, and more
- Provide informal support to both refuge and outreach clients, identifying and escalating risks where necessary
- Collaborate with your team to continuously improve service delivery

Qualifications

- A diploma (or working towards one) in Community Services, Social Services, or a related field
- Experience working with young people in social services, ideally within the youth sector
- A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach, with a genuine passion to support vulnerable youth
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a respectful understanding of diversity and inclusion
- A current Driver’s Licence
- An Employee Working with Children Check
