We are seeking an experienced and proactive Human Resources Specialist to join the team of a well-established and fast-growing project services organisation based in Newcastle.
This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of the HR function in a business delivering technical and professional services to clients across infrastructure, engineering, and related sectors. With a diverse, site-based workforce and a strong forward pipeline, this role calls for a HR leader who can balance strategic focus with day-to-day delivery in a project-driven environment.
About the Role
Reporting into the executive team, the HR Specialist will lead and implement people strategy across the full employee lifecycle – from culture and engagement through to compliance, workforce planning and industrial relations. You'll work closely with leaders to build capability, strengthen retention and support performance across a multi-disciplinary team.
The role requires a strong understanding of employment legislation, project-based operations and the evolving demands of a growing workforce.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead end-to-end HR support across recruitment, onboarding, performance, ER and offboarding
* Manage EBA compliance and industrial relations, including union consultation
* Develop and implement HR frameworks, policy and workforce strategy
* Guide leaders on performance reviews, case management and succession planning
* Oversee learning and development and drive employee engagement initiatives
* Support DEI efforts and ensure compliance with Fair Work and WHS legislation
* Collaborate with finance and payroll teams to maintain accurate and compliant HR systems
About You
* Proven experience in a HR Specialist or Senior HR Business Partner role in a project-based industry (e.g. construction, mining, engineering or infrastructure)
* Strong knowledge of employment legislation, EBA frameworks and employee relations
* Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Business or a related field
* Comfortable working in both strategic and operational capacities
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Experience supporting growth environments and workforce scale-up
