Essential:
* Registered as a general nurse with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency)
* Current practising certificate.
* Minimum three years current relevant nursing experience
* Holds / working towards an approved nephrology nursing qualification
* Ability to continuously reflect on nursing practice and apply learning as appropriate.
* Demonstrated organisational, decision-making and problem solving skills, combined with the ability to be self-directed.
* Computer literacy
* Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement initiatives.
* Demonstrated advanced clinical competence and expertise in nephrology nursing
* Demonstrated ability to effectively perform staff and patient education
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to operate within a multidisciplinary team

Position requirement:
* Requires rostered hours of work of minimum 60 hours per fortnight.
Key Responsibilities
* Utilises advanced nephrology nursing skills in the design, planning delivery and evaluation of patient care within the haemodialysis clinical setting.
* Protects the rights of patients by adhering to Privacy Principles and providing an excellent standard of care.
* Functions as the primary co-ordinator of care for a group of dialysis patients, collaborating with other health care providers in developing and implementing individualised plans of care.
* Responsible for own professional development. Participates in professional development activities, attending both internal and external education programs, to ensure maintenance and updating of professional knowledge and skills for clinical competence.
* Completes clinical and mandatory competencies annually
* Provides education and support to the patient and patient’s carers, to facilitate the attainment, maintenance and restoration of optimal health and well-being.
* Provides support and guidance to the level 1 registered nurses, enrolled nurses and PSA’s working within the facility and delivers care as part of a nursing team.
* Performs staff education and assessment, acting as a preceptor and role model as required.
* Provides education, support and guidance to any visitor in the clinic.
* Ensures/promotes a safe, secure and healthy working environment to staff and a comfortable, safe environment for visitors and patients as detailed in the Workplace Health and Safety policy (FMEAU-28).
* Understanding of the Quality improvement process and risk management obligations
* Participates in clinic management and business development by adopting a portfolio of responsibilities additional to direct patient care. This may include, but is not limited to the following;
o quality improvement co-ordination
o infection control promotion / monitoring
o occupational health and safety promotion / monitoring
* Co-ordination / delivery of staff education and professional development programs
* Clinical research projects
* Actively participates in the quality improvement process by reporting all incidents, hazards and opportunities for improvement.
* Participates in the review of organisational policies and procedures as required.
* Deputises in a higher-level position as appropriate and when requested.
* Liaise with Nephrologists and other members of the Allied Health Team.
* Maintains accurate patient information in medical records, including Therapy Data Management System (TDMS) and abides by confidentiality and Privacy Policy.
