The Role

Champion Bay SHS is seeking an organised and dedicated Laboratory Technician to join our friendly team.

Laboratory Technicians provide assistance to the Head of Learning Area and teaching staff to support the Science Department. They provide advice on suitable experiments, and/or demonstrations to support teaching and curriculum outcomes for science classes. The successful applicant should have initiative, good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal, and written communication skills, as well as exceptional organisational skills.

Duties will include preparing chemicals, equipment, and materials, designing, and constructing teaching aids and collecting and caring for living organisms for study purposes. The position will involve general housekeeping of chemicals, equipment (including repairs and maintenance) and the successful application will ideally have a solid understanding of compliance and legislative requirements for chemical, physical, and biological laboratory practices.

* A two (2) page statement addressing the following selection criteria as outlined in the attached JDF
* Demonstrated experience working within a science laboratory, including knowledge of laboratory techniques and relevant safety and legislative requirements.
* Demonstrated knowledge of science subjects relevant to the curriculum taught in secondary schools and the ability to design and construct experiments and equipment to support curriculum requirements.
* Demonstrated good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
* Demonstrated organisational and time management skills and ability to work independently.
* Demonstrated well developed keyboarding and computer skills including a working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
