This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing, with the employment type to be determined in negotiation with the preferred candidate and the NIAA delegate.
Where a non-ongoing specified term is offered, this would be for an initial period of up to 12 months, with possibility of extension up to a maximum period of two years.
A non-ongoing offer may result in conversion to an ongoing offer of employment, however this must occur within 18 months from the opening date of this advertisement.

The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly capable and forward-thinking Strategic Business Analyst to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with strong project management and technical skills, a strategic mindset, and a passion for improving ICT services and data management in a complex government environment. The Assistant Director performs a key function within the Branch, including people, system and stakeholder management responsibilities that enable the Agency to meet its obligations under the Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS).
This position works with a considerable degree of independence, under broad guidance from the Director, with delegated authority and responsibility to resolve issues and mitigate risks across wide ranging activities pertaining to data management and system integrity. They are responsible for:
- contributing to the aspects of Galambany which pertain to improving data and digital literacy and evidence informed decision making
- promoting best practice data management and delivering cross-sectional systems support
- providing advice and specialist expertise across a broad range of activities, including any issues that require escalation to a senior staff member
- troubleshooting and resolving user and system issues, ensuring minimal disruption to operations
- liaising with technical teams to manage system upgrades, enhancements, and integrations
- leading strategic planning activities related to ICT services, data management, and business improvement
- facilitating workshops, consultations, and co-design sessions to gather requirements and feedback.
Our Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will provide support for Dynamics-based systems and lead initiatives across ICT strategy, user support, risk management, and stakeholder engagement. They will work closely with business and technical teams to document knowledge holdings, deliver high-impact projects and drive continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following skills and attributes:
- lead strategic planning activities related to ICT services, data management, and business improvement to align with agency objectives
- work under minimal supervision and capably supervise other staff as necessary
- strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills, particularly relating to the development of project documentation and cutting-edge systems solutions
- ability to anticipate and establish priorities, monitor progress and work to deliver required corporate outcomes
- strong technical proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Dynamics and enterprise systems.
- demonstrated experience in project management, ICT strategy, and risk management.
- excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- proven ability to think strategically and creatively to solve complex problems
- demonstrated capability and commitment to continually develop cultural competency
- demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
