We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially aware Electrical Quantity Surveyor to manage all costs related to electrical engineering and installation projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for cost planning, procurement, contract administration, and ensuring project profitability while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare accurate cost estimates and bills of quantities (BOQ) for electrical works (LV/MV/HV systems, lighting, power distribution, BMS, etc.).
* Review project drawings, specifications, and scope documents to assess project requirements.
* Conduct cost planning and feasibility analysis for new and existing projects.
* Track variations and manage change orders in collaboration with project managers and engineers.
* Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing, tender submissions, and procurement.
* Evaluate and approve subcontractor claims and progress payments.
* Prepare, monitor, and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow reports.
* Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, verify quantities, and ensure compliance.
* Participate in contract negotiations, dispute resolution, and final account settlements.
* Ensure compliance with contract terms, building codes, safety regulations, and Australian Standards (or applicable standards based on region).
* Maintain detailed records and prepare reports for stakeholders and senior management.
Key Skills & Competencies:
* Strong knowledge of electrical systems, drawings, and construction practices.
* Solid understanding of cost control, estimating, and commercial reporting.
* Proficiency in relevant QS and project management software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam, MS Excel, AutoCAD, Aconex).
* Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
* Attention to detail and excellent numerical accuracy.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
* 3–5+ years of experience in quantity surveying with a focus on electrical works.
* Familiarity with relevant construction contracts (e.g., AS 4000, NEC, FIDIC).
* Experience in commercial, industrial, infrastructure, or MEP projects preferred.
* Membership or progress toward MRICS, AIQS, or equivalent professional body is advantageous.
Desirable (Optional):
* Understanding of sustainable and energy-efficient electrical systems.
* Experience with BIM and digital take-off tools.
* Licences or certifications in electrical trade or construction safety (e.g., White Card in Australia).
