This role works collaboratively with the GM and Sector safety and business team to develop and implement safety improvement plans that are aligned with the Compass Group Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) and Risk Management Systems for implementation in the assigned portfolio. The role provides specialist technical advice and support to operations and shared services teams to assist them to develop a culture characterised by care and respect, accountability for performance and where every employee and sub-contractor recognises 'Safety First in everything we do'. The role, in partnership with line leaders is instrumental in engaging and connecting every employee to our safety values. The role may lead in-unit safety advisers depending on the resourcing model for the subsector.

**Role responsibilities**:
**Priority responsibilities**:

- Coach leaders in their safety behaviours and programs to drive safe operations improvement owned by operational leaders
- Coach the relevant business teams and, in particular line management including Area and Unit Managers to consistently demonstrate the required behaviours as described in the company's behavioural based safety framework 'Our Safety Culture' in order to drive excellence in health and safety performance
- Work collaboratively with the operations lead teams to establish, maintain and execute the plans and programmes including through the involvement of all employees in the management of safety through appropriate consultative mechanisms
- Coach and model standards across our workplaces which eliminate the risk of food contamination and unintended consumption of food containing allergens
- Drive compliance to the food safety programmes and procedures to ensure the highest standard of food integrity to our customers
- Drive and maintain processes for identifying, assessing, managing and recording hazards and risks, including fatal risks
- Assess and provide feedback on the effectiveness of critical risk controls and contribute to process improvement
- Coach the investigation of incidents to drive a rigorous approach to root cause identification and close out of corrective actions, and ensure relevant details are up to date in CHESS and
- Undertake Safety Interactions to drive risk awareness and care with employees and leaders.

**Other responsibilities**:

- Establish and maintain processes for managing safety crises and emergencies within the portfolio
- Develop or identify from other parts of the business simple scalable solutions which eliminate the potential for recurrence
- Contribute to ongoing systems and process simplification and improvement which drive improved understanding and compliance to safety
- Report on safety performance statistics and audit scores to the lead teams including senior operational line managers and Shared Services functions on a monthly basis
- Work constructively within the safety community to accelerate sharing of learnings and solutions, including meeting weekly with other members of the safety team to calibrate the Weekly Incident Log to agree and recommend appropriate actions
- Oversee the distribution of Lessons Learned and safety shares to National Manager Assurance and Quality for consideration before dissemination to the business and check the effectiveness of communication and change management activities
- Support and maintain company certification to Australian and International standards in accordance with the external HSEQ audit programme
- Conduct training within the sector in the company agreed training course including Safety Essentials (SE) and any other approved training courses as are available from time to time
- Review, establish and maintain procedures for environmental management within the business that are closely aligned with the company's accredited Environmental Management System (EMS) including regular review of training effectiveness, implementation of environmental reporting and recording and the environmental solutions including but not limited to recycling programme, energy conservation, minimising of food waste, water use and other environmentally 'best practice' solutions as required
- Develop a clear understanding of prospective and existing client's HSEQ requirements and in conjunction with the Business Development team, develop and prepare plans in order to support the tender/bid and sales proposal process
- Interact with clients to demonstrate to them how the company's operations and programmes effectively manage their risk and add commercial value to their operations and business strategy and
- Any other duties as required from time-to-time.

**Experience, qualifications and competency requirements**:

- Minimum of 5 years track record in improving safe operations including a demonstrated capability in influencing leaders of the business to implement the company's HSEQ standards and procedures down the line
