**The Opportunity**
The project aims to fill significant gaps in understanding of developments in inequality in Australia over the long run and more recently.
It will achieve this by providing detailed, consistent and comprehensive data to enable the analysis of inequality and poverty trends in Australia over time. These databases will be used to analyse the past distributional impact of taxes and social security benefits to identify what factors explain historical and recent inequality trends and identify the most effective policies to reduce inequalities going forward.
Depending on the level of appointment, the responsibilities of the position will range from data development and analysis, contributing to working papers and journal articles with senior colleagues, or publishing original and innovative analysis in refereed journals and/or other refereed publications, presenting research at academic seminars and at national and international conferences, and collaborating with other researchers involved in the project and/or at the international level. The position's responsibilities will include contributing to the management of the project, including managing the website.
The successful applicant will have qualifications in social policy or other social science and cognate disciplines and/or will have experience in working on these issues in an academic or policy environment. They will have contributed to or undertaken research on income distribution and social security or taxation policies and have demonstrated knowledge of existing data sources and the academic literature on these or related issues.
