About The Organisation
As a proudly independent, community-managed organisation, UMFC is dedicated to strengthening families and individuals across North East Victoria and the Southern Riverina of NSW and is committed to social justice, inclusion, and trauma-informed care. The organisation embeds the Sanctuary Model across all levels, creating a safe and supportive culture for staff and the communities they serve.
As a program of UMFC, the Hume Riverina Community Legal Service (HRCLS) provides legal assistance in civil and family law to those most in need; people experiencing disadvantages to accessing justice who have multiple intersecting legal and non-legal problems extending from the cities of Albury/Wodonga to townships throughout North East Victoria and the Southern Riverina of NSW.

Step Into a Role That Makes a Difference
HRCLS is looking for multiple full-time Lawyers (Family Law and Civil Law) based in Wodonga, VIC. These roles will not only support vulnerable individuals through family law/family violence or civil law matters but will also have opportunities to contribute to community education and law reform and advocacy while working in a values‑led environment.
Responsibilities
* Delivering legal advice, casework and representation in family law/family violence or civil law
* Participating in community legal education and stakeholder engagement initiatives
* Providing holistic support in collaboration with allied community services
* Representing clients in courts and tribunals as appropriate
* Maintaining accurate records and complying with professional standards
* Participating in law reform and advocacy initiatives as relevant

Qualifications & Skills
* Hold (or be eligible to hold) an unrestricted practising certificate in Australia.
* Court advocacy experience in family law, family violence, or civil matters.
* Familiarity with the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and Magistrates' Court processes.
* Interest or experience in cross‑jurisdictional issues such as tenancy, credit, debt, or family violence.
* Understanding of trauma‑informed practice and working with disadvantaged communities.
* Resilience, values‑aligned, and eager to use your legal skills to create real impact.
* Enthusiasm, commitment, and a positive attitude; collaborative team player; adaptability; compassion and clarity when supporting people during difficult times.
* Hold a current C Class Driver's Licence and either hold or be eligible to obtain a Working with Children Clearance and a clear National Police Check.
* Weekly travel to regional communities is also required (with fleet vehicles provided).
