About the Role
As Head of Department, Junior Secondary you will play a vital role in shaping the way we deliver education services to ensure our students in the junior school have the skills, knowledge and creativity to succeed in a global community. Through your strong Instructional Leadership skills you will focus on improving student performance by leading teachers to develop quality teaching and learning practices whilst nurturing positive relationships between students, their parents and stakeholders.
Whilst this role is varied a key focus will be on the analysis of various data sources, providing curriculum and assessment guidance to specialist curriculum Heads of Department as well as working closely with the Head of Department Wellbeing, Engagement and Behaviour to ensure that the students in the junior school are fully engaging and flourishing in all facets of school life.
Your Responsibilities
You will have the responsibility for leading the following key tasks through Instructional Leadership practices:
* Oversee a junior school tracking system (TrackEd) to ensure every students' academic growth is tracked and monitored.
* Oversee the junior school program.
* Develop, implement and oversee a junior school diagnostic assessment schedule.
* Lead curriculum and assessment development and practices in the junior school in line with school and departmental initiatives.
* Coordinate and implement NAPLAN testing for years 7 and 9.
* Develop, implement and lead a NAPLAN Improvement Plan for students in years 7-9.
* Influence junior secondary classroom teachers and curriculum HODs to embed whole school literacy and numeracy strategies in classroom teaching practices.
* Identify, acknowledge and showcase the talent and effort of successful teachers and students in junior secondary to the school community in unique ways.
* Develop and maintain relationships with feeder schools and lead opportunities for collaboration with both staff and students
* Develop and coordinate Year 6 transition days, Orientation Week Program, Open Nights.
* Oversight of our Year 7-9 Academy programs
* Develop the Whole School Curriculum Plan
* Collaborate with key staff and coordinate whole school reading and literacy intervention programs
