AWS Cloud Architect
Location: Sydney - 50/50 hybrid working
Package: Up to $191k base + 15% super
Clearance: Must hold a baseline or be eligible to obtain
Passport: Australian Citizen only
The Opportunity:
A nationally critical Government regulator is entering the next phase of its cloud evolution. The first wave of migration is complete. Core platforms are already operating in Azure and AWS. The foundation exists. Now the work shifts to what actually matters.
Decomposing legacy. Strengthening security posture. Re-architecting services to be resilient, governed, and built for national scale.
This is enterprise cloud inside a PROTECTED environment. Architecture decisions here don't sit in slide decks. They underpin how businesses register, how markets are monitored, and how enforcement actions are executed across Australia.
This role suits a senior cloud architect who is comfortable operating in complexity. You'll bring enterprise judgement, security awareness, and the ability to translate regulatory constraints into pragmatic, scalable cloud design.
This is not greenfield experimentation. It's adjacency-led modernisation at a national scale.
The Role:
Producing high and low-level architecture designs across AWS workloads
Decomposing legacy applications into scalable, cloud-aligned patterns
Designing shared services, landing zones, and guardrails that other teams can safely build on
Embedding security, identity, and compliance controls into platform design from day one
Improving resilience, performance, and cost efficiency across the AWS estate
Partnering with cyber, infrastructure, and engineering teams to remove architectural bottlenecks
Reviewing and challenging peer designs to lift overall platform standards
Presenting architecture decisions clearly within governance and design authority forums
Balancing technical purity with operational reality and regulatory constraints
Business Context:
Enterprise-scale workloads
Commercial off-the-shelf platforms hosted in the cloud
Strong governance, security, and compliance posture
Multi-year modernisation programs across registry, regulatory, and infrastructure domains
What We're Looking For:
Australian citizenship, with the ability to obtain Baseline clearance
5+ years in cloud or infrastructure architecture
Deep AWS platform alignment
Experience designing shared services, governance, and scalable AWS environments
Background in regulated, enterprise, financial services, or government settings
Clear communication and the confidence to defend architecture decisions
Ideal career background: infrastructure engineer → cloud engineer → cloud architect.
Less suited: purely software-first engineers without enterprise architecture exposure.
Application Process:
Two interview stages
Mandatory psychometric assessment
Baseline clearance process
The end-to-end process can take close to two months due to the clearance application. Please be prepared for that timeline.
