The Quality Manager is a critical member of the management team - responsible for leading, coordinating and embedding a robust quality, safety, and continuous improvement framework across the residential aged care service. Reporting directly to the Director of Nursing, the role ensures compliance with the Aged Care Act, Strengthened Aged Care Standards, and regulatory requirements, while driving a culture of continuous quality improvement, risk awareness, and resident-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Governance and Committee Support
Prepare high-quality papers, reports, dashboards, and analysis for the Quality Care and Safety Committee (QCSC) and other governance forums as required.
Monitor and report on quality, safety, and risk performance indicators, trends, and emerging risks.
Support the DON in meeting governance, accreditation, and regulatory obligations.
Compliance and Regulatory Oversight
Maintain a strong working knowledge of the Aged Care Act and Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, including ongoing legislative and regulatory changes.
Coordinate and oversee readiness for accreditation, audits, and regulatory reviews.
Ensure policies, procedures, and systems align with legislative, regulatory, and best-practice requirements.
Quality Audits and Monitoring
Plan, conduct, and evaluate internal audits using the care system and other relevant platforms.
Identify gaps, trends, and areas for improvement through audit outcomes and data analysis.
Track corrective actions, ensuring timely implementation and effectiveness review.
National Quality Indicator Program
Coordinate and submit National Aged Care Mandatory Quality Indicator Program (QI) data in line with reporting requirements and timeframes.
Validate data accuracy, analyse results, and provide meaningful interpretation to support quality improvement.
Benchmark performance and support service-level improvement strategies.
Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)
Lead and support continuous quality improvement initiatives across clinical, operational, and consumer domains.
Maintain and oversee the Continuous Improvement Register, ensuring actions are monitored, evaluated, and closed.
Support staff to embed CQI principles into everyday practice.
Identify, assess, and monitor clinical risks.
Contribute to the development, review, and monitoring of the risk register.
Support the implementation of risk mitigation strategies and monitor their effectiveness.
Promote a proactive risk-aware culture across the service.
Education and Collaboration
Work collaboratively with the Clinical Nurse Educator to:
* Identify learning needs arising from audits, incidents, and quality indicators.
* Support the development of education and training aligned to quality, safety, and compliance priorities.
Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with clinical leaders, managers, and staff to support quality and safety outcomes.
Support resident engagement activities where relevant, including feedback and improvement initiatives.
Liaise with external stakeholders as required in relation to quality and compliance matters.
Key Skills and Experience
Demonstrated experience in a quality, compliance, or governance role within residential aged care.
Strong knowledge of the Aged Care Act and Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards.
Experience preparing governance-level reports and committee papers.
Experience conducting internal audits and managing corrective actions.
Knowledge of the National Aged Care Mandatory Quality Indicator Program.
Strong understanding of continuous quality improvement and risk management principles.
High-level written and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively with clinical and education teams.
Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA).
NDIS Screening Check - or can obtain one.
Post-graduate qualifications in quality, clinical governance, aged care, or health services management.
Experience using electronic care management systems (e.g. Lee Care or similar).
Experience supporting accreditation or regulatory audits.
