Wodonga City Council is seeking a strategic, values-driven and influential finance leader to guide the stewardship of public funds and provide trusted financial advice at the highest levels of the organisation.
This executive role leads a multidisciplinary finance portfolio spanning revenue, procurement, management accounting, payroll, accounts payable and statutory reporting. You'll play a critical role in ensuring financial sustainability, transparency and integrity while supporting Council's long-term strategic objectives and community outcomes.
Key focus areas
* Strategic Financial Leadership and GovernanceProvide expert financial leadership across Council, ensuring robust budgeting, treasury management and statutory reporting. You'll guide sound decision-making, uphold probity and transparency, and ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and Victorian local government legislation.
* People Leadership and Capability DevelopmentLead and develop a high-performing finance leadership team, fostering a culture of trust, accountability and continuous improvement. You'll coach, mentor and build capability across finance functions while supporting wellbeing, psychological safety and future workforce planning.
* Revenue, Procurement and Financial SustainabilityOversee Council's revenue systems, procurement governance and contract management frameworks to deliver value-for-money outcomes. You'll balance community expectations with long-term financial sustainability, ensuring ethical, compliant and customer-focused financial services.
* Insight-Driven Advice and Stakeholder EngagementProvide clear, influential financial advice to the Executive, Councillors and Audit & Risk Committee. You'll navigate complex political and regulatory environments with confidence, translate complex financial information into meaningful insights, and build strong internal and external relationships, including with VAGO and sector peers.
What we're looking for
We're seeking an experienced senior finance leader with a strong track record in complex organisations, ideally within a government or highly regulated environment.
You'll bring:
* Extensive experience leading finance or accounting functions and advising executives
* Advanced knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Victorian local government financial legislation
* Strong capability in budgeting, financial modelling and long-term financial planning
* Proven leadership skills with a focus on people development, improvement and integrity
* High-level communication and stakeholder management skills in politically sensitive environments
Professional qualifications and requirements include:
* Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or equivalent
* Full or eligible membership with CPA Australia or CA ANZ
* Experience working with external audit and internal control frameworks
* Current driver's licence and National Police Check (or ability to obtain)
