We work with and assist businesses to create a safe and healthy culture in Queensland places of work. This is achieved by:
- Making sure work health and safety laws are followed.
- Investigating work-related fatalities and serious injuries.
- Educating workplaces on ways to comply with legislation.
- Taking legal action when work health and safety laws are broken.
- Educating employees and employers on their legal obligations.
As the Operations Manager, you will work autonomously and lead the Wide Bay region in the Moreton Sunshine Coast Wide Bay WHS CFS directorate to develop and maintain relationships and networks with whole of government, industry stakeholders, and the wider community to identify contentious and emerging issues, develop initiatives, and provide advice on these matters.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of the team(s) over which you have responsibility. This includes ensuring you and your team members are aware of and observing their responsibilities and obligations, including under relevant OIR HSW policies and procedures.
- Provide strategic and operational direction, support, and advice to team members in accordance with procedures, objectives, and performance standards adopted by OIR, and by becoming actively involved in the more difficult or potentially contentious issues.
- Lead, coach, and manage flexible and mobile teams by providing operational and strategic direction through regular feedback and mentoring to support the achievement of both business and personal objectives and encourage opportunities for development at work.
- Implement OIR policies and procedures with respect to human resource management, in particular, performance planning and review, injury prevention and management, workplace health and safety, equal employment prospect, and the promotion of a discrimination-free workplace culture that values equity and diversity.
- Maintain quality control and continuous improvement in the efficient and effective implementation of priority plans through interventions, compliance, and enforcement activities, business, and community engagement.
- Establish and maintain relationships and networks with government and industry stakeholders, and the wider community to identify contentious and emerging issues, develop initiatives, and provide advice on these matters to the Regional Director.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of operational plans, contribute to and manage budgets and assets, and monitor the achievement of WHSQ agreed outcomes and priorities.
- Adhere to and implement departmental policy, including the National Compliance and Enforcement Policy, by leading and managing reactive services, including workplace concerns, certain notified events, workplace interventions, and after-hours on-call rostering arrangements.
- Promote enhanced workplace health and safety performance through participation in engagement activities, implementation of compliance campaigns, and provision of relevant and timely advice to local industry about relevant legislation and practices.
- Manage compliance and enforcement activities, including the primary conduct of investigation and prosecution of offences under the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 and targeted enforcement responses.
