The Vocation & Education Specialist assists children and young people living in therapeutic residential care.
MASP is a not-for-profit organisation located in Mildura, Victoria and is looking to fill a permanent part time position (48 hours per fortnight).
The Vocation & Education Specialist assists children and young people living in therapeutic residential care to:
• re-engage in education
• experience success in learning
• develop the knowledge, skills, and understanding required to be active and engaged members of their community
• enhance future employment opportunities.
The role is primarily aimed at supporting the children and young people to reach their full learning potential. This is achieved by working closely with stakeholders including MASP's Therapeutic Residential Care team, the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH), local schools, other education and training to strengthen educational engagement, improve learning outcomes, and support pathways to employment for each child residing in the assigned therapeutic residential care home.
Expected commencing salary of $40.2005per hour plus statutory superannuation. Because MASP is a non-profit organisation, you also have the option to maximise your income through salary packaging.

This role can involve emotionally demanding situations and exposure to psychological hazards, including client distress, trauma disclosures, and urgent responses. MASP prioritises staff wellbeing by providing supervision, debriefing, reflective practice, safety measures, and access to wellbeing resources. We encourage open communication—raise any concerns with your supervisor, management, or the OHS Committee as soon as possible.
Essential role-specific skills, knowledge and experience
1. Tertiary qualification in Education, Social Work, Community Services or Youth Work or relevant experience.
2. Experience supporting children and young people who are disengaged from, or at risk of disengaging from, education.
3. Demonstrated understanding of the impact of trauma on learning and educational engagement.
4. Experience in developing, implementing, and reviewing individual education plans (IEPs) to support student learning and development.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills, with proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, professionals, and other stakeholders.
6. Proven ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks, plan workloads effectively, and meet deadlines.
Highly desirable role-specific skills, knowledge and experience
1. Experience in a not for profit / charitable organisation.
