About the role
The Operations division is responsible for operating today’s systems and for market security and reliability, along with supporting AEMO to navigate the energy future. Its Market Management team is responsible for the sound financial management of Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM), Western Australian Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) and east coast gas markets with functions including settlement, prudential management, metering and retail market operations.
Energy markets are in transition and in addition to managing daily operations, the Market Management team are focused on operationalising new rules, systems and processes to support future requirements. As a Senior Energy Analyst, you will be contributing to department strategy and coordinating the design of business processes and systems that support business units through integration and uplift of operational capability. This current role has been created to provide centralised support for directing team responses in areas including strategy, risk, resource planning, project reporting, contributing to industry forums and internal operational reporting.
This role can be based anywhere in Australia.
What You Will Be Doing
- Coordinating, collaborating and leading small groups from operational business units in the Market Management team and broader functional areas within AEMO to identify and resolve a range of strategic and operational challenges.
- Collaborating with subject matter experts within the metering, settlement, prudentials or retail markets functions, to participate in and contribute to the identification, assessment and management of complex technical and operational issues and risks.
- Undertake analysis and propose options for market/system/process enhancement opportunities that align with AEMO’s strategic direction.
- Developing material (eg reports, dashboards and presentations) to inform stakeholders and support decision making.
What You Will Bring To The Role
- Degree in economics, commerce, engineering, science or a related discipline.
- Experience in a commercial, operational or regulatory role in either the Energy or Utility sectors is essential.
- Strong facilitation experience in running workshops and taking the lead on problem solving.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting technical documents and/or legal instruments, such as rules and regulations in a compliance‑driven setting.
- Proven analytical skills that provide technically resourceful, evidence‑based solutions to issues coupled with an ability to effectively communicate proposals and execute solutions in a constructive and timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to develop high quality written reports and deliver effective presentations which communicate technical, complex concepts or data analysis to informed audiences.
