Offer description

Access Group Australia is the nation\'s largest privately owned fleet of access equipment, providing sales, hire, service, and transport of construction equipment - including scissors, boom lifts, telehandlers, and forklifts - across the construction, material handling, and mining sectors.

Our vision is to be the most respected privately owned company in our industry. We provide the newest fleets, backed by a customer service and technical team that leads the sector in professional standards, innovation, and operational excellence.

We are seeking a Technical Lead to own and evolve our ecommerce experience layer, guiding it through stabilisation, refinement, and continuous improvement. This is a hands-on leadership role within a modern composable stack, including Next.js, Builder.io, Commercetools, Algolia, Vercel, and our integration layer. You will lead a small team, set technical standards and operational practices, and help scale the platform across multiple brands.

This is an office-based role, Monday to Friday, based at our Canning Vale corporate office.

Frontend Architecture and Platform Ownership

You will take end-to-end ownership of the frontend architecture and delivery of our ecommerce experience layer, ensuring it is scalable, resilient and built to evolve across multiple brands.

Your focus will include:

* Own and evolve the Next.js codebase and frontend architecture
* Shape the Builder.io component library, content models, and reusable design patterns
* Define reliable integrations with Commercetools, Algolia, and the service bus
* Drive performance, observability, security, and operational readiness across the frontend stack
* Establish standards, documentation, and engineering practices to ensure long-term platform health

You will work within our existing composable architecture and improve it thoughtfully over time - favouring a disciplined approach over unnecessary rewrites.

Leadership and delivery

In a player-coach capacity, you will:

* Lead and mentor a small offshore engineering team, fostering high standards and continuous improvement
* Guide technical planning, code reviews, and pairing to ensure quality and maintainability
* Own complex technical challenges and unblock the team when needed
* Collaborate with UI/UX, backend, and integration teams to deliver robust, reusable patterns and clean architecture
* Champion disciplined delivery, QA, and operational practices to maintain a stable, scalable frontend platform

Operational excellence & Platform Ownership

* You will build and maintain strong operational practices:
* Establish monitoring, logging and alerting to ensure a reliable frontend experience
* Drive release practices using feature flags, controlled rollouts and rollback strategies
* Maintain a tech-debt register and refactor roadmap, balancing improvements with delivery
* Lead post-incident reviews to prevent recurring issues and improve platform stability
* Collaborate with backend teams, vendors and business stakeholders to maintain clean architecture and clear trade-offs

About You

You are

* Pragmatic and calm under pressure, with a focus on results
* Experienced in improving and stabilising existing systems
* Skilled at coaching developers while balancing technical and business priorities
* Strong in modern frontend engineering and composable architectures
* Clear and structured communicator, able to explain trade-offs and influence decisions

* Strong understanding of trade-offs and incremental improvement
