For an enthusiastic Consultant Paediatrician, the position offers a unique opportunity to influence the further development and expansion of paediatric services within the region, while also managing diverse and sometimes quite complex paediatric conditions rarely seen in metropolitan centres.
This leadership position offers a rich clinical environment embracing general paediatric medicine, community paediatrics as well as level 4 neonatology.

The region has a population of 32,000 with 23% under 14 years of age and 15% identifying as indigenous Australians, with a substantial focus in health care delivery for this latter group.
Some of the paediatric healthcare provision is provided to the wider region via telehealth and outreach clinics to towns and indigenous communities. The hospital is affiliated with the University Medical School as a teaching hospital and is also accredited with the RACP for Advanced Registrar Training in General and Rural Paediatrics with Perinatal component, and for Core Clinical Training and AST training in Paediatrics with ACRRM and the Queensland Rural Generalist Pathway.
The Paediatric service at the Hospital is staffed by a Director of Paediatrics and two Senior Medical Officers/Staff Specialists Paediatrics. The work involves public clinics as well as a 24/7 roster to attend and care for Emergency Department presentations and inpatients in the 10 bed children's wards, the 3 bed Level 4 nursery birth related emergencies. Most referrals for admission arise from acute presentations to the Emergency Department.

The Hospital and Health Service covers an area of over 300,000 square kilometres and services the rural and remote communities, it has developed into the major referral hospital for the region, with smaller satellite hospitals. It offers primary, secondary and community health services in addition to specialist services such as anaesthetics, paediatrics, psychiatry, surgery, and obstetrics & gynaecology. It also hosts a range of clinics in specialty and sub-specialty services.

- Mandatory qualifications/Professional registration/Other requirements
- An MBBS or equivalent to enable registration with the Medical Board of Australia, Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) is mandatory.
- FRACP (Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians) or equivalent.
- Registration as a Specialist Paediatrician, or other relevant speciality, with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
