The Role
As Senior Specialist – Government Engagement, you will play a critical role in strengthening Red Cross' influence with government by supporting State and Territory Directors to design and deliver engagement strategies that achieve priority funding and policy outcomes.
This role is pivotal in advancing humanitarian diplomacy priorities and ensuring government relations are strategic, consistent, and evidence‑informed. You will prepare high‑quality briefings, convene events, and manage projects that amplify impact and achieve change.
Key Focus Areas Include
* Leading engagement strategies with Ministers, MPs, and senior officials across SA and WA.
* Driving innovation in influence tactics, campaigns, and partnerships to achieve systemic change.
* Coordinating across national and state teams to ensure alignment and effective two‑way information flow.
What You'll Bring
* Substantial experience engaging with government at federal, state, or territory level, including working directly with Ministers and senior officials.
* Comprehensive knowledge of government systems and processes, including policy development, parliamentary procedures, budget cycles, and elections, with practical experience across state and territory governments (particularly WA and / or SA). Proven ability to design and implement engagement strategies that deliver funding or policy outcomes.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare persuasive briefings and correspondence.
* Political awareness and ability to identify emerging risks and opportunities.
* Experience in advocacy related to complex social issues (e.g., modern slavery, human trafficking, disaster resilience).
* Practical understanding of state and territory government (particularly WA and / or SA) – including policy development, parliamentary processes, budget cycles, and elections.
* Police check, Working with Children clearance, and driver's licence are mandatory requirements for this role.
