About the role
The Assisted School Travel Program (ASTP) plays a significant role in meeting the needs of eligible students with disability by providing free specialised transport to and from school where parents and carers are unable to provide or arrange transport for the student either fully or in part. The program provides around 3,000 individual transport services through contracted service providers, free of charge to approximately 13,000 students across NSW in both government and non-government schools.
The ASTP Support Officer role delivers a range of customer services and responds to general enquiries from parents, schools, contractors and ASTP Officers to assist in the achievement of outstanding outcomes for the business unit.
The role forms part of a broader team that provides an efficient, effective and safe transport service to students with disability for government and non-government schools across New South Wales.
Key accountabilities
* Process student, driver, ATSO applications, payroll, and compliance tasks to support Program operations.
* Respond to enquiries on student eligibility, payroll, child protection, and transport runs in a confidential, customer-focused manner.
* Provide administrative and clerical support, including filing, records management, mail handling, scanning, report preparation, and reception duties.
* Identify and implement improvements to administrative processes to enhance efficiency.
* Collaborate across the Assisted School Travel Program to support team and agency outcomes

About you
* Provide responsive, high-quality customer service for students with disability, handling sensitive stakeholder needs.
* Prioritise and complete clerical and data tasks accurately under tight deadlines.
* Adapt quickly to new systems and processes to improve efficiency and service delivery.
* Support multiple program areas, including operations, payroll/HR, and general administration.
* Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements of the role
* Current and valid Working with Children Check Clearance for paid employment.
* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
