We have a growing presence in cyber, space and nuclear programs. Tell me about this role: Amentum are seeking multiple Systems Engineers that have differing but specific skillsets. In these roles, you will contribute to the delivery of a Future Lead‑In Fighter System (FLIFS) inclusive of aircraft, simulators, facilities, ground support equipment and training materials. The FLIFS system will replace the existing Introductory Fighter Course (IFC) and Introductory Fighter Course – Air Combat Officer (IFC‑A) systems at 79 Squadron and 76 Squadron, training fast jet aircrew to the point of conversion to frontline combat aircraft. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team under the general direction of the Engineering Manager to develop Functional Performance Specifications (FPS) and supporting systems engineering artefacts for one or more FLIFS technical domains. You will liaise closely with other engineers, including standards, risk, test and logistics specialists, and contribute to tender evaluation and design assurance activities. This position is full time and required to be onsite at Russell Offices, Canberra. What will I be doing day to day? Depending on your technical specialisation, responsibilities may include: Common responsibilities Develop high quality, fit for purpose Functional Performance Specifications (FPS) aligned with applicable technical standards Ensure a high level of integration and consistency across all FLIFS system specifications Work collaboratively with the Engineering Manager and engineering team to identify, manage and reduce capability risks Participate in tender evaluations, assessments and design reviews Present technical developments to the Integrated Project Team Produce clear, high quality written reports, briefs and technical documentation Technical domains (experience in one or more required): Aircraft Communications, Navigation, Processing, Avionics and Sensor Suite Airframe, Engine and Ejection Seat systems Maintenance systems engineering, including risk management and systems engineering database development and oversight Candidates may be aligned to one primary domain, with opportunities to contribute across others depending on experience. Who we’re Looking For: You are an experienced Systems Engineer with strong Defence or aerospace domain expertise and the ability to work confidently in a complex capability acquisition environment. You will possess strong written, presentation and communication skills Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and technical SMEs The ability to interpret policy, manage risk and provide clear technical advice Experience delivering planned engineering products on‑time and to a high standard. Willingness to travel as required for tender evaluations, reviews or vendor engagements Experience in CASG acquisition programs and aircraft or systems engineering is highly valued. What sort of skills do I need? Essential An engineering qualification relevant to your domain (e.g. Aeronautical, Electrical, Electronics, Communications or Systems Engineering ) Active Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) experience Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities Australian citizenship, NV1 clearance minimum, ITAR compliance Highly Regarded / Role‑Dependent Experience with aircraft systems, airframe and propulsion, avionics or maintenance engineering Experience producing or managing systems engineering databases Experience supporting risk logs and tender evaluation activities Prior exposure to Defence aviation or fast‑jet platforms What’s in it for me?
