Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Control Systems Engineer to lead and deliver cutting‑edge automation and control solutions across the renewable energy and mining/resource sectors from Perth. In this hands‑on technical leadership role you will design, develop, and commission advanced automation systems that power sustainable energy infrastructure and industrial operations across Australia.
Responsibilities
* Lead the design, development, and commissioning of advanced automation systems for industrial processes
* Design and implement large SCADA systems – greenfield, upgrades and migrations – using all major SCADA application platforms
* Design, develop and commission substation automation systems
* Develop and maintain engineering automation tools using modern practices, including Python, C# and virtualisation platforms and simulation tools
* Program and troubleshoot PLCs (Rockwell, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Emerson)
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including mining clients, protection engineers and field operators
* Prepare clear and concise software and communications systems design diagrams and documentation
* Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), site commissioning, and signal validation under tight project timelines
* Provide technical leadership, mentoring of junior engineers, and contribute to project planning and delivery
Qualifications
* 7+ years of experience in control systems project engineering, with a focus on energy, renewable power systems or mining/resources
* Broad range of experience with control systems technologies and a demonstrated ability to learn new systems and approaches quickly
* Proven experience in large‑scale SCADA system design and delivery for grid‑connected renewable energy systems, substation automation or mining operations
* Excellent engineering documentation, fault‑finding and commissioning skills
* Strong communication and leadership abilities
Key Skills and Technologies
* Plant SCADA – deep understanding of architecture and subsystems
* Ignition SCADA – deep understanding of architecture, Perspective and SQL database design for high‑performance large‑scale systems
* Substation automation controllers (Eaton SMP, SEL RTAC, GE D20) and grid‑connected substation electrical & protection concepts
* PLC programming (Schneider Electric, Allen‑Bradley, Siemens) with proficiency in function block and structured text
* Industrial networking – ring topologies, PRP, HSR, PTP, inter‑network routing & modern cybersecurity requirements
* Knowledge of Modbus/TCP, DNP3 SA, IEC‑61850 MMS and OPC‑UA protocols for redundant large‑scale applications
* Knowledge of AEMO compliance, grid connection and management concepts and microgrid control concepts
* Proficiency in Python, C# or similar development platforms and application to engineering and test automation
* Working knowledge of virtualisation platforms, including Docker, Linux hosting and cloud solutions
