Operational Improvement Officer, Clerk Grade 5/6, Wollongong

NSW SES is looking for an Operational Improvement Officer to play a key role in strengthening how we learn, adapt, and deliver for the communities we serve.
* Part time, 21 hours per week, temporary position until 31 July 2026 (with the possibility of extension)
* Competitive salary range of $99,938 - $110,271 (plus 12% superannuation and leave loading) along with attractive leave entitlements.
* Location: Based in Wollongong with minimum 2 days per week in the State Headquarters office
* Need to be able to undertake travel and work occasional evenings and weekends to perform the role

About the opportunity As our Operational Improvement Officer, you will lead the monitoring and reporting of continuous improvement recommendations across the agency. Your work will ensure our data is accurate, current, and meaningful - helping drive informed decision‑making at all levels. You’ll build strong relationships with stakeholders and maintain critical systems that support lessons management and organisational improvement. Working closely with the Manager, you’ll help coordinate and facilitate workshops and meetings that bring people together to share experience and generate insights. You’ll review and synthesise information to identify lessons that enhance operational performance and guide change. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys variety: from analysing data, to engaging with people, to producing high‑quality presentations and contributing to reports, documents, and communications that influence how we evolve as an organisation. About you: To be successful in this role you will:
* Be a highly motivated individual with excellent communications skills.
* Be able to effectively coordinate multiple tasks to meet deadlines and plan and prioritise your workload.
* Have a focus on people and enjoy building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Understand how to collect and collate reviews and studies to identify lessons & research outcomes that are relevant to NSW SES.
* Lead the monitoring and reporting on the implementation of recommendations that lead to operational improvement, including maintaining databases to ensure accuracy, currency and integrity of data and enable reporting
* Coordinate, and assist with facilitation of, workshops and meetings to ensure that stakeholders are engaged and appropriate data is gathered
* Prepare and maintain a range of reports and documents including status reports and products to communicate outcomes from lessons processes and research

Essential requirements
* Relevant experience that demonstrates a sound understanding of the principles of evidence-based decision making and operational improvement
* Sound written and oral communication skills
* Thorough knowledge of AIIMS principles and processes, and/or willingness to obtain competence within 12 months
* Ability and willingness to participate in activities to support the agency during operational or emergency responses at NSW SES locations in the state, where the requirements are within the scope of your skills, knowledge and capabilities. You may also be required to participate in an on-call roster.
