About the Role
An exciting opportunity is available for a professional and compassionate Security Officer to join the team at Newcastle Pharmacotherapy Service within Hunter New England Local Health District. This role is more than security – it's about supporting the safety, wellbeing, and care of vulnerable clients and the healthcare professionals who support them every day. Working within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment, you will play an important role in maintaining a safe and secure service while responding to incidents with professionalism, empathy, and confidence. Situated near Throsby Creek precinct, this position offers the chance to work in a rewarding healthcare setting while enjoying the vibrant surroundings of Newcastle's waterfront dining and community spaces.
Key Responsibilities
* Respond promptly to incidents, emergencies, and duress alarms using a calm, trauma‐informed approach
* Support staff in managing challenging situations through de‐escalation and conflict resolution strategies
* Conduct patrols, safety inspections, and security checks throughout the facility
* Monitor CCTV, alarms, and access control systems
* Maintain accurate incident reports and security documentation
* Deliver exceptional customer service to staff, clients, and visitors
* Undertake administrative duties relevant to the role
* Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
What You'll Bring
You are a reliable and resilient security professional with excellent communication skills and a strong customer‐focused approach, remaining calm under pressure and confident responding to aggressive, distressed, or vulnerable individuals with empathy, professionalism, and sound judgement.
Essential Criteria
* Current NSW Security Licence 1A
* Certificate II in Security Operations
* Senior First Aid CertificateCurrent Class C Driver Licence (NSW eligible)
* Ability to work across a 24/7 rotating roster
To Be Successful in This Role, You Will Demonstrate
* Proven experience working within the security industry, ideally in healthcare or other high‐pressure environments
* Strong customer service skills with ability to perform duties with minimal supervision
* Proven ability to respond appropriately to challenging situations using de‐escalation and conflict resolution techniques
* Confidence working both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
* A sound understanding of security policies, procedures, and safe work practices
* Experience operating surveillance, CCTV, alarms, and electronic monitoring systems
* Excellent communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure while supporting staff, patients, and visitors in a professional manner
