Offer description

Wayarang isn't just another agency...

We believe in the power of perspective to drive meaningful change. Our integrated approach helps create a more connected, inspired, and beautiful world, and we're on a mission to do things differently.

For our clients, that means combining the innovation of an agency with the rigour of a consultancy. We don't believe in "tick-a-box" solutions or cookie-cutter frameworks. We work alongside learners to co-design, create, and deliver work that is meaningful, respectful, and impactful.

For our team, that means creating an environment where people can thrive — where cultural safety, flexibility, and purpose-led work are just part of the way we do things.

We are Indigenous-owned, female-led, and proudly diverse, with a team that includes First Nations people and culturally confident allies from all over the country. If you want to grow your impact, stretch your thinking, and do it in a way that feels good, you'll love it here.

What we're looking for...

As an Instructional Designer at Wayarang, you'll help bring learning to life by translating ideas, insights and subject matter expertise into clear learning design, course blueprints and structured storyboards that are grounded in defined learning outcomes.

You'll work across a diverse mix of learning projects and clients, with different topics, audiences and contexts in each. No two projects look the same, and that's part of what keeps the work engaging.

While you won't be hands on for the technical build, you'll play a key role in guiding development — ensuring the final learning experience reflects the intent, structure and quality set at the design stage.

What you'll be doing...
Leading learning design from brief to blueprint
* Work with clients, subject matter experts and our team to understand learning objectives, audience needs and context
* Translate insights, research and requirements into a clear learning approach and content direction
* Define course structure, flow, and learner journey — from high-level design through to detailed blueprint
Learning content design and development
* Shape and develop learning content that is clear, practical and aligned to learning outcomes
* Break down complex information into structured, engaging and accessible learning experiences
* Draft scripts, activities and content that bring the learning to life
Storyboarding and experience design
* Develop detailed storyboards that map content, interactions, navigation and flow
* Define how multimedia, interactions and assessments support the learning experience
* Ensure the design is grounded in best practice instructional design principles
Supporting build and ensuring quality
* Work closely with designers and developers to translate storyboards into build-ready outputs
* Provide guidance during development to ensure the final product aligns with the intended learning experience
* Support quality assurance and final review prior to delivery
What you bring to the table...
* Experience in instructional design, learning design or a similar role, designing digital learning from concept through to storyboard
* Strong understanding of adult learning and instructional design principles — and how to apply them in practice
* Confidence translating complex information into clear, structured and engaging learning content
* Experience working with subject matter experts and stakeholders to shape and refine content
* Excellent written communication skills, with a strong eye for structure, flow and clarity
* High attention to detail, with the ability to organise and present content in a way that makes sense to learners
* Ability to work independently and take ownership, while collaborating effectively with a broader team
* Curiosity and creativity, and an openness to exploring different approaches to bring learning to life
* A demonstrated commitment to working in culturally safe and respectful ways, with an openness to learning and building confidence in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and perspectives
Bonus points if you have...
* Experience with tools such as Articulate Rise, Storyline or similar
* Familiarity with Figma or Adobe Creative Suite
* Understanding of accessibility and inclusive design in digital learning (e.g. WCAG)
* Experience working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities or organisations
Remuneration and benefits
Remuneration

At Wayarang, we believe that fair pay isn't just a number — it's about valuing our people. Salary for this role will be negotiated based on experience and expertise, ensuring that the right candidate is compensated in a way that reflects their contributions, leadership, and impact.

As a guide, we expect this role to sit somewhere between $90,000 – $110,000 + super, depending on whether you're junior, mid-weight, or more experienced.

Benefits
* Flexible work arrangements – Work where and how you work best, with hybrid and fully remote options available.
* Professional development – Whether it's training, certifications, or attending industry or cultural conferences, we invest in your growth.
* Generous paid leave policies – Including parental leave, cultural leave, and Sorry Business leave, because life outside of work matters too.
* Career progression opportunities – We don't just fill roles; we help people grow into leadership.
* Technology allowance – If you work remotely, we'll support you with the right tools and setup to do your best work.
How to apply

Send us your resume and, if you have one, a portfolio or examples of your work — this could include storyboards, learning designs, or digital modules you've contributed to.

Tell us a bit about yourself — the work you're proud of, how you approach learning design, and the skills you're keen to keep building. We're less interested in how many years you've worked, and more interested in your thinking, your approach, and the care you bring to your work, so make sure that comes through.

As part of the recruitment process, shortlisted candidates may be invited to complete a paid work sample. This may involve shaping a learning approach, structuring content, or developing a storyboard. We'll pay you for your time and use this to understand how you think, structure and bring learning to life.

While this is not an identified role, we strongly encourage First Nations candidates to apply.
