An exciting opportunity for a skilled Risk and Safety Officer who thrives on coaching leaders and driving continuous improvement in workplace health and safety based in the heart of the Barossa.
The Risk and Safety Officer is responsible for reviewing and enhancing the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Management System, ensuring alignment with legislation, codes of practice, Australian Standards, and Council objectives. You’ll work closely with staff to educate, guide, and embed safe practices that minimise risk, support compliance, and improve service delivery. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as the role involves navigating differing viewpoints, supporting cultural change, and building trust through effective communication and practical solutions.
You’ll play a key role in updating safe systems of work, developing control documents, refining task risk assessments, and implementing a new Verification of Competency process for mobile plant. The position requires confident use of systems along with a solid understanding of risk registers and incident investigation processes. This role suits a self-motivated, solutions-focused professional who can work autonomously, support change, and make a meaningful impact across a diverse operational environment.
Responsibilities
• Update secure systems of work and develop control documents.
• Refine task risk assessments and implement the Verification of Competency process for mobile plant.
• Use risk registers and incident investigation processes to support continuous improvement.
• Educate, guide and embed secure practices across the organization; support cultural change and effective communication.
Qualifications
- Experience working within and improving Risk and Safety Frameworks and practices in an operational environment.
- Effective incident management skills and knowledge, with the ability to engage relevant stakeholders to reach a resolution.
- Experience interpreting and applying legislation and statutory requirements at a practical level.
- Sound knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2012, Local Government Act 1999, Return to Work Act 2014 and other related legislation and regulations.
- Practical and professional approach to problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution.
