The Senior Field Technician role is a hands-on construction leader responsible for running telecommunications build crews on active infrastructure projects. This role is designed for an experienced telecommunications field technician who can take ownership of sites, lead people, and deliver projects safely, efficiently, and to specification.
The role includes:
• Leading field crews and subcontractors
• Managing day-to-day site activities on telecommunications infrastructure builds
• Coordinating pit and pipe, lead-ins, hauling, cabling, and equipment installs
• Ensuring works comply with NBN, carrier, and construction standards
• Enforcing safety, traffic control, and site compliance
• Resolving technical and construction issues in the field
• Capturing QA, as-built data, and job documentation
This position is the backbone of CBG Services' delivery model — translating project plans into real-world construction outcomes. The Senior Field Technician is accountable for crew performance, build quality, and on-site execution, making it a critical leadership role within the business.

The Role
As an Senior Field Technician, you will be required to:
* Reading and understanding cable plans and designs
* Splicing and terminating optical fibre cable for various carriers
* Installation of optical fibre in the distribution and local network
* Testing and commissioning live fibre
* High level of Jointing and Splice
* Produce test results in work books
* Installation of internal conduit and mounting cabinets, and equipment
* Efficient in perform testing, including OTDR traces, power meter etc and perform fault finding if required
* Must be able to travel when and if required
* Competent to perform daily paper work
Must Have Requirements:
We are looking for a hardworking and reliable team member that has the following:
* Valid Driver's Licence
* White Card
* Police Clearance
* Current First Aid and CPR
* enAble registered
* Experience working as an Optical Fibre Technician on a major telecommunications network (Optus, Telstra, NBN etc)
* Implement traffic management plan
* Confined Space and Gas atmosphere testing
* Knowledge of network and the ability to scope including civil works, Supply mud maps and SOR's
* Coach any less experienced staff in start cards, traffic management setup, dig permits and completion of tasks in a timely manner
Desirable:
* Previous experience 3yrs with NBN
* Ability to read site plans
* ACMA Open Cablers License (Fibre Endorsement)
* Optus Level 1 accreditation
* Strong understanding across data and fibre networks
Candidates will need to be prepared to:
* Stay away in various locations North, East and South of QLD, sometimes at short notice from time to time
* Undertake appropriate training courses and inductions as required
* Participate in competency reviews
